A paromate/parogen is a mental companion formed through continuous thought and interaction, akin to an imaginary friend. Unlike imaginary friends, Paromates/Parogens possess their own individual will, thoughts, and emotions, enabling them to act autonomously.

Is this similar to conditions like schizophrenia, multiple personality disorder, or dissociative identity disorder?
Not in the least! Schizophrenia and DID (formerly known as MPD) are disorders distinguished by significant clinical distress, dysfunction, or peril. Schizophrenia involves a breakdown in perceiving physical reality and consistency, often influenced by genetics, and not always involving auditory hallucinations. Whereas DID is a dissociative disorder commonly linked to childhood trauma.
Neither of these disorders are "self-inflicted," and here at Paromancy Board we distinguish them as different experiences.
